Ingredients

1 medium head of green cabbage

1 lb ground beef or turkey

1 cup cooked rice (white or brown)

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce

2 tablespoons ketchup

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (optional)

Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the Cabbage: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage head and gently place the whole head in the boiling water. Blanch for about 2-3 minutes until the outer leaves are tender. Remove the cabbage and let it cool. Once cool enough to handle, carefully peel off 12-16 leaves. Set aside.

Make the Filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef or turkey, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, 1/2 cup of the tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.

Fill the Cabbage Leaves: Take one cabbage leaf at a time and place about 2-3 tablespoons of the filling at the base of the leaf. Fold in the sides and roll it up tightly (like a burrito). Repeat this process until all the filling is used.

Prep the Baking Dish: In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of the remaining tomato sauce over the bottom to prevent sticking.

Arrange the Rolls: Place the cabbage rolls seam-side down in the baking dish. Pour the rest of the tomato sauce over the top of the rolls. If desired, sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce.

Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. After 45 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes to let the cheese melt and brown slightly.

Serve: Let the dishes cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley for an extra touch. Enjoy your homemade cabbage rolls!
