Ingredients

8 hot dog sausages

8 soft hot dog buns

1 large onion, finely chopped

2 cloves of garlic, minced

1 bell pepper (red or yellow), diced

1 can (15 oz) of crushed tomatoes

1 can (15 oz) of sweet corn, drained

1 can (15 oz) of black olives, sliced

1 cup of mayonnaise

2 tablespoons of mustard

2 tablespoons of ketchup

1 tablespoon of hot sauce (optional)

1 cup of grated cheese (mozzarella or cheddar)

Fresh cilantro or parsley for garnish

Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

Prepare the Sausage: In a saucepan over medium heat, cook the hot dog sausages according to package instructions (grilled, boiled, or pan-fried) until heated through. Set aside.

Make the Sauce: In the same saucepan, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and diced bell pepper, cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes.

Combine Ingredients: Pour in the crushed tomatoes and bring to a simmer. Stir in sweet corn and sliced olives. Season with salt, pepper, and hot sauce if you like it spicy. Let it simmer for 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Prepare the Buns: While the sauce simmers, lightly toast the hot dog buns on a skillet or grill for 1-2 minutes until just golden.

Assemble the Cachorro Quente: Place a sausage in each bun. Top generously with the tomato-corn-olive mixture.

Add Condiments: Drizzle mayonnaise, mustard, and ketchup over the hot dog directly. Add grated cheese on top.

Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle chopped cilantro or parsley over the dish for a burst of color and freshness. Serve immediately with extra condiments on the side!
