Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes and Ham

4 large potatoes, thinly sliced

2 cups cooked ham, diced

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

1 cup heavy cream

1 cup whole milk

1/4 cup unsalted butter

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions
 

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

    In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

      Stir in the flour and cook for another 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly until it turns golden.

        Gradually whisk in the heavy cream and whole milk, ensuring no lumps form. Continue to whisk until the mixture thickens slightly, about 3-4 minutes.

          Add the paprika, onion powder, salt, and pepper to the creamy mixture. Remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.

            In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes evenly. Top with half of the diced ham and half of the cheese sauce. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, ham, and top with the rest of the cheese sauce.

              Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.

                After 45 minutes, remove the foil and sprinkle the remaining cup of shredded cheddar cheese on top. Bake uncovered for an additional 20-25 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbly, and the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.

                  Once done, remove from the oven and allow to sit for 10 minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
