Ingredients

2 cups of unsweetened apple sauce

1 cup of cherry jello mix

1 cup of boiling water

1/2 cup of chopped fresh cherries (or canned, drained)

1 cup of diced apples (preferably Granny Smith)

1/2 cup of chopped walnuts (optional)

1 tablespoon of lemon juice

1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

Whipped cream for serving (optional)

Instructions

In a mixing bowl, combine the cherry jello mix with the boiling water. Stir well until the jello is completely dissolved.

Once the jello mixture has cooled slightly, add the unsweetened apple sauce and lemon juice. Stir to combine thoroughly.

Gently fold in the chopped cherries, diced apples, walnuts (if using), and ground cinnamon until evenly distributed.

Pour the mixture into a mold or a 9x9 inch baking dish. Smooth the top with a spatula.

Cover with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or until the jello is firmly set.

Once set, remove from the refrigerator. If using a mold, carefully run a warm knife around the edges and invert onto a serving platter. If using a dish, simply cut into squares or scoop out portions.

Serve chilled, topped with whipped cream if desired.
