Ingredients

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

¼ teaspoon salt

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

¾ cup buttermilk

1 cup fresh or frozen cherries, pitted and halved

¼ cup chocolate chips

Optional: powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two small loaf pans.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes).

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Then mix in the vanilla extract until well combined.

Alternate adding the dry mixture and buttermilk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry mixture. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.

Gently fold in the halved cherries and chocolate chips with a spatula, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared loaf pans and smooth the tops.

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Remove from the oven and let the loaves cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Optional: Once cooled, dust with powdered sugar before slicing and serving.
