Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 ½ teaspoons baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

¾ cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

¾ cup buttermilk

For the Cinnamon Filling:

½ cup brown sugar, packed

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

¼ cup unsalted butter, softened

2 cups powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1-2 tablespoons milk (as needed for consistency)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.

In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon. Set aside.

In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes).

Add in eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

          Stir in the vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk, starting and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

For the cinnamon filling, combine the brown sugar and ground cinnamon in a small bowl. Beat together melted butter until well mixed.

Place one tablespoon of batter in each cupcake liner, followed by about one tablespoon of the cinnamon filling, and top with another tablespoon of batter. Create a swirling effect with a toothpick or the end of a spoon to mix slightly.

Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

To make the cream cheese frosting, beat together softened cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and enough milk to achieve desired consistency.

Once cupcakes are completely cool, frost generously with the cream cheese frosting.
