Ingredients

3-4 pounds pork shoulder (also known as pork butt)

1 can (12 oz) Coca-Cola (not diet)

1 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite brand or homemade)

1 medium onion, chopped

4 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

Optional: buns for serving

Optional: coleslaw for topping

Instructions

Prepare the Pork: Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder and cut it into large chunks (about 4-6 pieces). This helps it cook more evenly.

Season the Meat: In a small bowl, mix together the salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Rub the spice mixture all over the pieces of pork.

Layer in the Crockpot: Place the chopped onion and minced garlic at the bottom of the Crockpot. Lay the seasoned pork on top.

Mix the Sauce: In a separate bowl, whisk together the Coca-Cola, BBQ sauce, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar until well combined.

Combine: Pour the Coca-Cola mixture over the pork in the Crockpot, making sure to coat the meat well.

Cook: Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-6 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily pulled apart with a fork.

Shred the Pork: Once cooked, remove the pork from the Crockpot and place it on a cutting board. Using two forks, shred the pork into bite-sized pieces.

Mix with the Sauce: Return the shredded pork to the Crockpot and stir it into the remaining sauce. Allow it to cook on low for an additional 10-15 minutes to absorb the flavors.

Serve: Serve the pulled pork on toasted buns with a drizzle of extra BBQ sauce and topped with coleslaw, if desired.
