When making pulled pork, the right ingredients are key. You want a juicy and flavorful dish. First, choose the best cuts of meat for pulled pork. I recommend using pork shoulder, also known as pork butt. This cut has enough fat to keep it moist while cooking. It also breaks down well during the long cooking time.

Ingredients

3-4 lbs pork shoulder (also known as pork butt)

1 cup pineapple juice

1/2 cup orange juice

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 onion, chopped

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 tablespoon chili powder

1 tablespoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon cumin

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust for spice level)

1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

8 hamburger buns (for serving)

Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)

Sliced jalapeños (optional, for serving)

Instructions

Begin by trimming excess fat from the pork shoulder if necessary. This will help prevent the dish from being overly greasy.

In a large bowl, combine the pineapple juice, orange juice, minced garlic, chopped onion, brown sugar, chili powder, smoked paprika, cumin, salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and apple cider vinegar. Mix well.

Place the pork shoulder in your crockpot and pour the marinade mixture over the pork, ensuring it’s well-coated.

Cover the crockpot with the lid and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4-5 hours, until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.

Once cooked, remove the pork from the crockpot and let it rest for a few minutes. Use two forks to shred the pork, discarding any excess fat.

Return the shredded pork to the crockpot, stir to combine with the remaining juices, and let it soak for an additional 10-15 minutes on warm.

Serve the pulled pork on hamburger buns, garnished with fresh cilantro and sliced jalapeños for an extra kick if desired.

                Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 8 hours 15 minutes | Servings: 8

                  - Presentation Tips: Serve the pulled pork in a large bowl on a platter with stacked buns on the side. You can garnish the dish with extra cilantro and lime wedges for added freshness and color.
