Ingredients

2 cups mashed potatoes (about 4 large potatoes)

1 pound ground lamb or beef

1 cup carrots, diced

1 cup peas (fresh or frozen)

1/2 cup onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon tomato paste

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (optional for depth)

1 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped

1 teaspoon fresh rosemary, chopped

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 cup beef or vegetable broth

2 tablespoons olive oil

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and minced garlic, sautéing until translucent (about 3-4 minutes).

Add the ground lamb or beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula (approximately 5-7 minutes).

Stir in the diced carrots, peas, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce (if using), thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper. Mix for 2-3 minutes.

Pour in the beef or vegetable broth and let it simmer for another 5 minutes until thickened slightly. Remove from heat.

In a large baking dish, spread the meat and vegetable mixture evenly.

Layer the mashed potatoes over the meat mixture, smoothing it out with a spatula or spoon.

Create some texture on the potato layer with a fork for crispy edges when baked.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until the potatoes are golden and slightly crispy on top.

Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.
