Ingredients

8 ounces elbow macaroni

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 cups whole milk

2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon mustard powder

Salt and pepper to taste

½ cup breadcrumbs (for topping)

2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (for topping)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, whisk in the flour to form a roux. Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.

Gradually add the milk to the roux while whisking continuously until smooth. Bring to a gentle simmer and allow to thicken, about 3-5 minutes.

Stir in the cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, garlic powder, onion powder, mustard powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until the cheese is melted and the sauce is creamy.

Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until well combined.

Transfer the mac and cheese mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

In a small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan cheese, then sprinkle this mixture evenly over the top of the macaroni and cheese.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.

Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
