Ingredients

4 medium yams (sweet potatoes), peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup maple syrup

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add the cubed yams. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, until they are slightly tender but not fully cooked. Drain and set aside.

In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add brown sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cayenne pepper (if using). Stir until well combined and the sugar is dissolved.

Add the parboiled yams to the skillet and gently toss to coat them in the syrup mixture. Cook for about 5 minutes, allowing the yams to absorb the flavors.

Transfer the yams and the syrup mixture to a baking dish. Drizzle with vanilla extract and sprinkle chopped pecans on top, if desired.

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the yams are tender and caramelized.

Carefully remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.

                Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour | Servings: 6
