Ingredients

1 lb (450g) ground beef

2 large onions, thinly sliced

4 cloves garlic, minced

2 cups beef broth (low sodium)

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1 teaspoon fresh rosemary, chopped

1 cup long-grain rice

1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

2 tablespoons olive oil

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until they are caramelized and golden brown, about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the minced garlic in the last 2 minutes of cooking. Remove from heat and set aside.

In a separate large bowl, combine the ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, fresh rosemary, salt, and pepper. Mix until well blended.

In a large casserole dish, spread the ground beef mixture evenly across the bottom. Layer the cooked rice over the beef.

Pour the beef broth over the rice layer, ensuring that it is evenly distributed.

Top with the caramelized onions and garlic mixture.

Sprinkle the shredded Gruyère and mozzarella cheese evenly over the top.

Cover the casserole dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and slightly golden.

Once done, let the casserole rest for about 5 minutes before serving.

Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

                        Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour | Servings: 4-6

                          - Presentation Tips: Serve the casserole directly from the dish, or portion it onto individual plates. For a touch of elegance, drizzle a little extra beef broth around the plate, and add a sprinkle of freshly chopped parsley. Enjoy!
