Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (or turkey)

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 green bell pepper, finely chopped

1 cup ketchup

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

4 large garlic bread rolls (store-bought or homemade)

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Garlic Bread: If using store-bought rolls, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Cut the rolls in half and lay them on a baking sheet. If you're making your own garlic bread, spread a garlic butter mixture on the faces of the rolls (1/2 stick softened butter mixed with 2 minced garlic cloves and parsley).

Sauté the Veggies: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, garlic, and bell pepper. Sauté for about 5 minutes or until the vegetables are softened.

Cook the Meat: Add the ground beef (or turkey) to the skillet. Break it apart with a spatula and cook until browned, about 7-10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper as it cooks.

Combine Ingredients: Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, and onion powder. Mix well and let it simmer on low heat for about 5-10 minutes, until the mixture thickens slightly.

Toast the Garlic Bread: While the meat simmers, put the garlic bread rolls in the preheated oven. Toast for about 5-7 minutes until they are golden and crispy.

Assemble the Sloppy Joes: Remove the garlic bread from the oven and spoon the hearty meat mixture generously over the toasted halves. Top with shredded cheddar cheese.

Melt the Cheese: Return the assembled sloppy joes to the oven for an additional 2-3 minutes to melt the cheese.

Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven, sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley, and serve immediately.
