Ingredients

3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting

1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast

1 cup whole milk, warmed to about 110°F (43°C)

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (plus more for brushing)

1 large egg

1 tsp salt

4 cloves garlic, minced

2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

1/4 cup unsalted butter (for garlic butter topping)

1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)

Flaky sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

Activate the Yeast: In a mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, until frothy.

Mix the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 1/2 cups of flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add in the melted butter, egg, and the activated yeast mixture.

Knead the Dough: Gradually mix the flour into the wet ingredients until a dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, gradually add more flour, a tablespoon at a time. Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.

First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Prepare the Garlic Butter: In a small saucepan, melt 1/4 cup of unsalted butter over low heat. Add minced garlic, parsley, and garlic powder (if using). Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Set aside to cool slightly.

Shape the Rolls: Once risen, punch down the dough and turn it out onto a floured surface. Divide into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place them in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish or on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Second Rise: Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes, until puffed.

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Brush with Garlic Butter: Once the rolls have risen, brush them generously with the prepared garlic butter mixture and sprinkle with flaky sea salt.

Bake: Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

Serve Warm: Remove from the oven and brush with any remaining garlic butter. Serve warm and enjoy the delicious aroma of garlic butter rolls!
