Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1/2 pound ground pork

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs

Salt and pepper to taste

2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)

4 sub rolls

1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Olive oil for drizzling

Instructions

Prepare the Meatball Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, egg, minced garlic, onion powder, Italian herbs, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined; avoid overmixing to ensure tender meatballs.

Form the Meatballs: Shape the mixture into golf ball-sized meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter, and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake the Meatballs: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Drizzle the meatballs with olive oil and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are cooked through and golden brown.

Simmer in Marinara Sauce: While the meatballs are baking, heat the marinara sauce in a saucepan over medium heat. Once the meatballs are done, carefully transfer them to the sauce, allowing them to simmer for an additional 5-10 minutes to absorb the flavors.

Assemble the Subs: Slice the sub rolls open without cutting all the way through, creating a pocket. Place three or four meatballs inside each roll, then generously ladle marinara sauce over the top. Sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese.

Melt the Cheese (Optional): For a bubbly, golden top, place the assembled subs under the broiler for 2-3 minutes, until the cheese melts and is slightly toasted.

Serve: Remove the subs from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving. Serve hot with extra marinara sauce on the side for dipping.

                Prep Time: 15 min | Total Time: 50 min | Servings: 4

                  - Presentation Tips: Pack the subs in a platter lined with parchment paper, and garnish with fresh basil leaves for a pop of color. Serve alongside a small bowl of marinara for dipping!
