Ingredients

6 large buttery croissants

6 slices of Swiss cheese

6 slices of thinly sliced ham (e.g., honey or smoked ham)

2 tablespoons Dijon mustard

2 tablespoons honey (optional)

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped (optional for garnish)

Freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Slice each croissant in half lengthwise, being careful not to cut all the way through; you want to create a pocket.

Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on the inside of each croissant for a zesty kick.

Place one slice of ham and one slice of Swiss cheese inside each croissant. If you’re using honey, drizzle a little over the cheese for a sweet contrast.

Close the croissants gently and place them on the prepared baking sheet with the seam side down.

Brush the tops of the croissants with beaten egg to give them a golden, shiny finish.

Sprinkle freshly ground black pepper and chopped chives over the top for added flavor and color, if desired.

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the croissants are golden brown and the cheese is melting.

Remove from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.

                    Prep Time: 10 minutes | Total Time: 30 minutes | Servings: 6

                      - Presentation Tips: Serve the croissants warm on a rustic wooden board, garnished with additional chives and accompanied by a small bowl of Dijon mustard for dipping.
