Ingredients

2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast

½ cup warm milk (110°F)

¼ cup granulated sugar

1 large egg, beaten

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup powdered sugar (for glazing)

¼ cup water (for glazing)

Instructions

In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.

In a large mixing bowl, combine granulated sugar and the yeast mixture. Stir in the beaten egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.

Gradually add in the sifted flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour as needed.

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.

Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out to about ½ inch thickness on a floured surface.

Use a donut cutter to cut out doughnut shapes. If you don't have a doughnut cutter, you can use two round cookie cutters (one larger for the outside and one smaller for the center hole).

Place the doughnuts on a floured baking sheet, cover them again with a towel, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

In a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot, heat oil to 350°F. Carefully fry the doughnuts in batches for about 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

Remove the doughnuts and place them on a wire rack to drain excess oil.

In a small bowl, combine powdered sugar and water to create a glaze. Dip the warm doughnuts into the glaze, allowing excess to drip off.

Let the glazed doughnuts sit for a few minutes until the glaze sets.

Prep Time: 30 minutes | Total Time: 2 hours | Servings: 12 doughnuts

                            - Presentation Tips: Arrange the doughnuts on a beautiful serving platter or a wire rack. You can also serve them with a side of coffee or hot chocolate for a delightful pairing!
