Ingredients

1 teaspoon high-quality matcha green tea powder

2 ounces hot water (approximately 175°F or 80°C)

1 ounce milk or a milk alternative (optional, for a creamy texture)

1 teaspoon honey or agave syrup (optional, for sweetness)

A pinch of sea salt (optional, to enhance flavor)

Instructions

Sift the Matcha: Using a fine mesh sieve, sift the matcha green tea powder into a bowl to break any clumps and ensure a smooth tea.

Heat the Water: Boil water and then allow it to cool slightly to around 175°F (80°C) to avoid burning the matcha, which can cause a bitter flavor.

Combine Matcha and Water: Pour the hot water over the sifted matcha powder in your bowl.

Whisk: Using a bamboo whisk (chasen) or a small frother, whisk the matcha vigorously in a zig-zag motion until it becomes frothy and well combined for about 30-60 seconds.

Add Milk (optional): If you prefer a creamier drink, steam or heat your milk and then pour it into the matcha mixture. You can also use a milk frother to create a nice foam on top.

Sweeten (optional): Stir in honey or agave syrup for sweetness, and add a pinch of sea salt to elevate the flavors.

Serve: Pour the matcha tea into your favorite cup or bowl. Optionally, you can garnish it with a sprinkle of matcha powder on top for a beautiful presentation.

Enjoy: Savor your authentic matcha tea warm, or let it cool and serve it over ice for a refreshing iced matcha drink.
