Ingredients

1 box of orange-flavored cake mix

3 large eggs

1/2 cup vegetable oil

1 cup water

1 cup orange soda (like Orange Crush)

1 3-oz package of orange-flavored gelatin

1 cup whipped topping (like Cool Whip)

1/2 cup cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup powdered sugar

Zest of 1 orange (for garnish)

Orange slices (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Cake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan. In a large mixing bowl, combine the orange-flavored cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and water. Mix until smooth and well combined.

Bake the Cake: Pour the cake batter into the prepared baking pan. Bake according to package instructions, usually around 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from the oven and let cool completely in the pan.

Poke the Cake: Once the cake is cool, use the handle of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the surface of the cake, about 1-inch apart.

Prepare the Gelatin: In a mixing bowl, dissolve the orange gelatin powder in 1 cup of boiling water, stirring until fully dissolved. Add 1 cup of Orange Crush soda to the mix, stirring gently to combine.

Add the Gelatin: Pour the gelatin mixture evenly over the cake, allowing it to seep into the holes. Cover the cake with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to set.

Make the Topping: In a bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth. Fold in the whipped topping until fully combined.

Frost the Cake: Once the cake has set, remove it from the refrigerator and spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the top of the cake.

Garnish: Finish by sprinkling the orange zest over the top and garnishing with orange slices for a burst of freshness and visual appeal.

Serve: Cut the cake into squares and serve chilled. Enjoy the refreshing flavors!
