Ingredients

For the Pretzel Bites:

1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)

2 teaspoons sugar

2 teaspoons active dry yeast

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

⅓ cup baking soda (for boiling)

Coarse sea salt (for topping)

For the Cheddar Sauce:

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 cup milk

2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 teaspoon garlic powder

½ teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Prepare the Pretzel Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Shape the Pretzel Bites: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it into ropes about ½ inch thick. Cut the rope into 1-inch pieces to form your pretzel bites.

Boil the Bites: In a large pot, bring about 8 cups of water to a boil. Add the baking soda carefully (it will bubble up). Boil the pretzel bites in batches for about 30 seconds each. Use a slotted spoon to transfer them to a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Bake the Pretzel Bites: Brush the boiled pretzel bites with water and sprinkle with coarse sea salt. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Make the Cheddar Sauce: While the bites are baking, melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute. Slowly add the milk, whisking constantly until the mixture thickens. Stir in the cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and season with salt and pepper until smooth.

Serve and Enjoy: Once the pretzel bites are baked and golden, remove them from the oven. Serve warm with the creamy cheddar sauce for dipping. Enjoy your delicious Cheesy Pretzel Bites Delight!
