Ingredients

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon cocoa powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup vegetable oil

1 cup buttermilk, room temperature

2 large eggs

2 tablespoons red food coloring

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ teaspoon white vinegar

8 oz cream cheese, softened

½ cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)

Optional: Fresh raspberries or chocolate shavings for garnish

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.

In another bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and vinegar until well combined.

Gradually add the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until just mixed. Be careful not to overmix.

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

While the cakes are cooling, prepare the frosting by beating the softened cream cheese with a hand mixer until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, continuing to beat until smooth and fluffy.

Once the cakes are completely cooled, crumble them into small pieces in a large bowl.

Begin layering the cake in jars: start with a layer of crumbled cake, followed by a layer of cream cheese frosting. Repeat the layers until the jars are filled, finishing with a layer of frosting on top.

Seal the jars with lids and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to set.

Prep Time: 20 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes | Servings: 6 jars

                          - Presentation Tips: Decorate the tops of the jars with fresh raspberries or a sprinkle of chocolate shavings for an added touch of elegance. Use a ribbon around the jars for gifting!
