Ingredients

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup packed brown sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup homemade or store-bought salted caramel sauce

Sea salt flakes, for garnish

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually mix this dry mixture into the wet ingredients until just combined.

Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Create a slight indentation in the batter to hold the caramel.

Drizzle the salted caramel sauce evenly over the batter, leaving a little space around the edges.

Spread the remaining batter over the caramel layer, using a spatula to cover it as best you can. It’s okay if some caramel peeks through!

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean (a few crumbs are okay).

Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then carefully lift them out using the parchment paper and transfer them to a wire rack.

Once cooled completely, sprinkle with sea salt flakes to taste and cut them into squares or bars.
