In a pot, bring water to a boil and add a pinch of salt. Add the edamame pods and boil for about 5 minutes, until tender. Drain and set aside.
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, until fragrant but not browned.
Stir in the red pepper flakes and sesame oil, cooking for another 30 seconds to release the flavors.
Add the drained edamame to the skillet and toss to coat them in the garlic and spice mixture. Pour in the soy sauce and stir well to combine, cooking for an additional 2 minutes to heat through.
Remove from heat and sprinkle sesame seeds on top. Transfer to a serving bowl and garnish with fresh cilantro. Adjust salt to taste.
