Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

For the Cookie Layer:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup chocolate chips (milk, semi-sweet, or a mix)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easier removal.

    Make the Brownie Layer:

      - In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter and chocolate chips together, stirring until smooth.

        - Remove from the heat and let it cool slightly.

          - Stir in the granulated sugar, then add the eggs one at a time, mixing until fully incorporated.

            - Add the vanilla extract and mix well.

              - In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder. Gradually fold this dry mixture into the wet ingredients until just combined.

                - Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.

                  Prepare the Cookie Layer:

                    - In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

                      - Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth.

                        - In another bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.

                          - Fold in the chocolate chips.

                            Layer the Cookie Dough:

                              - Drop spoonfuls of the cookie dough over the brownie layer. You can flatten them slightly with the back of a spoon to cover more area, but don’t worry about making it perfect. The cookie dough will spread as it bakes.

                                Bake:

                                  - Place in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are set, and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (but not wet batter).

                                    Cool and Serve:

                                      - Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 20 minutes. Then, using the parchment paper (if used), lift out the brookies and place them on a wire rack to cool completely.

                                        - Once cooled, cut into squares and enjoy!

Prep Time: 20 minutes | Total Time: 50 minutes | Servings: 12-16 squares
