Ingredients

1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend)

1 medium onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon ketchup

1 tablespoon mustard

Salt and pepper to taste

4 slices of sharp cheddar cheese

4 hoagie rolls or thick burger buns

1 cup sautéed bell peppers (optional for extra flavor)

Olive oil for sautéing

Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

Sauté the Aromatics: In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, cooking until the onion becomes translucent (about 4-5 minutes).

Brown the Beef: Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef to the skillet. Use a wooden spoon to break up the meat while it cooks. Season with salt and pepper. Cook until it’s browned, about 6-8 minutes.

Flavor It Up: Once the beef is browned, stir in Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and mustard. If you choose to add sautéed bell peppers, incorporate them at this point. Mix well and let it simmer for 3-5 minutes to blend the flavors.

Melt the Cheese: Lower the heat to medium-low, then lay the slices of cheddar cheese on top of the beef mixture. Cover the skillet with a lid to help melt the cheese (about 2-3 minutes).

Prepare the Rolls: While the cheese melts, slice the hoagie rolls in half and lightly toast them on a grill or in the oven until golden.

Assemble the Sandwiches: Spoon the cheesy beef mixture generously onto the toasted rolls.

Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle freshly chopped parsley over the top for a pop of color and flavor. Serve immediately, and enjoy your hearty Original Joe Sandwich!
